AirAsia Philippines says flights to continue amid unpaid fees

MANILA, Philippines – AirAsia Philippines on Wednesday assured passengers that its operations will continue as scheduled despite reports of being ordered to vacate government-run airports due to unpaid charges.
Without directly addressing its outstanding collections with the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (Caap), AirAsia said all flights across its network would remain operational.

“AirAsia Philippines assures the travelling public that it remains fully operational, with flights and services continuing as scheduled across its network, subject to normal operational considerations such as weather and other standard factors affecting airline operations,” it said in a statement.
This came after a Politiko report said Caap had issued a cease-and-desist order against AirAsia Philippines on June 2 over alleged unpaid fees dating back to 2021.
It involved than P271.9 million in airport charges and other obligations allegedly owed by the airline.
In March, Caap sent a collection letter to AirAsia Philippines as part of its “regular business processes.”
“The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines confirms that it has issued a collection letter to AirAsia Philippines regarding its outstanding account, as part of its regular business processes,” the agency said at the time.
While Caap did not disclose the amount involved in its public advisory, citing data privacy rules, a copy of the collection letter addressed to AirAsia Philippines president Suresh Bangah showed unsettled accounts receivable amounting to P833.67 million as of Dec. 31, 2025.
Caap had yet to respond to requests for comment as of this writing. /pai INQ
