Real life conversations with Her: A conversation on growth, guidance, and becoming

Progress rarely follows a straight line. It begins in uncertainty, takes shape through experience, and reveals itself only over time. This understanding is at the heart of how Robinsons Land sees growth.

Real Life Conversations with Her: A Conversation on Growth, Guidance, and Becoming

This perspective comes to life in “Real Life Conversations with Her,” Robinsons Land’s Women’s Month special, which brings together women from different generations for candid exchanges on ambition, growth, and the paths that shape who they are becoming.

One of the segments features Yuka Mariz Umali, a young legal assistant at Robinsons Land who is just beginning her professional journey, in conversation with Atty. Macel Fernandez Estavillo, Chief Legal Officer of JG Summit Holdings.

For Yuka, this phase in her life is one of exploration.

“Pag first time mong gawin ang isang bagay, mahirap. Sobrang hirap,” she admits, describing the steep learning curve that comes with starting a career. Her experience reflects a familiar reality for many early-career women, where progress often begins in uncertainty, and growth is not always immediately visible.

Yet those challenges have also revealed strengths she did not expect to find in herself.

“I am so proud of myself. I’ve excelled in things na hindi ko na expect na magagawa ko,” she says, reflecting on the quiet progress that comes with perseverance, resilience, and grit.

For Atty. Macel, the conversation becomes a chance to look back on a career shaped by government service, private legal practice, and corporate roles. Even with that breadth of experience, she speaks about her journey with humility.

“I still consider myself a work in progress,” she shares. “There are things I’m proud of accomplishing, and some things that I worked hard for that maybe I didn’t get. But I still see so much I want to do, and so much I still want to learn.”

Her perspective points to a different stage of growth, one defined by continuous evolution and a deeper sense of purpose. That mindset also shapes the guidance she offers Yuka. “At this stage what is important is for you to get new skills and get exposure,” she kindly advises. “You have to keep moving, and that includes not waiting to decide, but actually doing things.”

Beneath that shared wisdom is a broader view of success. “While my career, my profession, is important to me, I don’t think it really defines me,” says Atty. Macel.

Together, their conversation reflects a truth many women experience but rarely articulate: progress is not defined by milestones alone, but by the courage to begin, adjust, and keep moving.

This is the kind of progress Robinsons Land recognizes and supports across roles, stages, and every point where women are still becoming. Within its workplaces and communities, this translates to environments designed to support learning and development over time.
