MANILA, Philippines — Mary Mediatrix Medical Center has opened its P500-million expansion building in Lipa City, Batangas, as it addresses a pressing need for healthcare in Southern Luzon.

Mediatrix is part of the 25-member network of Mount Grace Hospitals Inc., itself part of the United Laboratories group.

According to hospital data, the Calabarzon region is second only to Metro Manila in the number of heart attack cases.

To help lower the area’s mortality rate, Mediatrix recently added its second catheterization (cath) lab machine. This addition makes it the only hospital in the region to have two such facilities.

The investment covers both the new building and brand-new, state-of-the-art medical equipment that adheres to international standards.

Also, the expansion also brings economic benefits to Batangas, as Mediatrix is actively hiring 120 new nurses.

Jose Ronaldo H. de los Santos, president and CEO of Mary Mediatrix Medical Center, said in a statement the investment is a strategic move of Mediatrix and Mount Grace Hospitals to increase capacity and reinforce its top standing in healthcare in Southern Luzon.

“Mary Mediatrix Medical Center has always been a key part of our network, and this expansion solidifies our commitment to providing accessible, top-tier medical services to the people of Batangas and the surrounding region,” de los Santos said.

The new building’s adaptable design also allows it to serve as a self-contained isolation unit. This is a proactive measure that ensures the hospital is equipped to handle future public health needs while offering a wide range of advanced services and amenities to enhance patient care and comfort.

Aim to be the largest in Southern Luzon

This includes an urgent care facility, which is the first phase of a larger expansion plan for the hospital’s Emergency Department capability.
