Japanese stocks plunge amid concern over US economy
TOKYO, Japan — Japanese stocks plunged in Tokyo trading Monday morning after US shares dropped on Friday amid mounting concerns about the U.S. economy’s outlook.
The declines in Japanese stocks were led by falls in technology shares.
Japan’s benchmark Nikkei 225 stock index was down 1,258.08 points, or 3.38 pct, at 35,862.25 at 10:26 a.m. The index fell below 36,000 for the first time in about three weeks.
The falls in US stocks Friday came as economic data fueled concerns about higher inflation at a time when the US economy’s outlook has already been clouded by US President Donald Trump’s higher tariffs.
