Meralco’s electricity rate up by 10¢/kWh in December

Customers of Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) may heave a sigh of relief as the power distributor announced lower electricity rates this month.

Customers of Pangilinan-led Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) may have to shell out more to pay their power bills this month due to higher generation charges.

Just like in November, the hike in generation charge triggered a new round of increase in power rates, reaching P0.1048 per kilowatt hour (kWh).

This brought the overall rate for a typical household to P11.9617 per kWh from the previous month’s P11.8569 per kWh.

According to Meralco vice president and head of Corporate Communications Joe Zaldarriaga, households consuming 200 kWh may see an increase of P21 in their electricity bill this December.
