PhilCare signs up for cybersecurity with Globe

Health maintenance organization PhilCare has tapped the enterprise arm of Globe Telecom Inc. for cybersecurity solutions in order to protect sensitive information on its members.

In a statement on Thursday, Globe Business noted that malicious hackers are targeting health-care providers because of the amount of personal data they handle.

“By integrating Globe’s advanced cybersecurity solutions, we can ensure that our members’ personal information remains safe and secure as they access their health-care plans online,” said Raymond Tiangco, executive vice president for operations at PhilCare.

KD Dizon, vice president and head of Globe Business, said that through this partnership, Globe is not only reinforcing PhilCare’s digital infrastructure but also supporting their mission to deliver secure health-care services to Filipinos.

Globe noted that the business email compromise (BEC) is among the common digital attacks being launched against companies.

In BEC attacks, hackers send emails embedded with suspicious links to business emails of company employees. Such attacks are intended to trick employees into providing access to the corporate IT system.

Costs of attacks

The disruption in operations caused by cyberattacks is detrimental to the business due to spending related to retrieval of their data or system, in addition to opportunity costs because of the resulting downtime.

In a recent report, cybersecurity firm Kaspersky reported that Filipino companies dealt with 846,837 web threats in January to September.

In total, Southeast Asia saw over 26 million web attacks for the period. Most of these were logged in Malaysia with 19.6 million threats, followed by Indonesia with 3.2 million.
