TeaM Energy adds 1.3 MW of solar power for tile maker
TeaM Philippines Energy Corp. (TPEC), the retail unit of TeaM Energy Corp., boosted the renewable energy supply for a tile manufacturing plant in Batangas with an additional 1.3-megawatt (MW) solar photovoltaic-based generating capacity.
In a statement on Thursday, the company said the rooftop power system on Mariwasa Siam Ceramics Inc.’s (MSCI) facility in Sto. Tomas town now has a capacity of 4.4 MW.
“We began supplying an additional 1.3 MW of electricity to [Mariwasa] last July. This is on top of the 3.1 MW that we have already been generating for them since last year,” said TPEC president Tristan Taghoy.

In total, TPEC installed over 8,000 units of solar panels.
Its partnership with Mariwasa is under a 25-year solar supply agreement, which involves the operation and maintenance of the system.

Article continues after this advertisementIn April, TPEC also inked a retail electricity supply deal with Anglo Watsons Glass for its bottle plant in Laguna.
TPEC also recently bagged supply agreements with two other manufacturing firms—Cebu Mitsumi Inc., a producer of mechanical and electronic devices and components; and Toyota Motor Philippines, which is focused on the assembly, importation and distribution of motor vehicles.
A partnership between Tokyo Electric Power Co. and Marubeni Corp., TeaM Energy is one of the biggest independent power producers in the local market with more than 2,000 MW of installed generating capacity.
The group operates two coal-fired facilities—the 1,200-MW Sual power plant in Pangasinan and the 735-MW Pagbilao power plant in Quezon province. It also holds a 50-percent stake in the 420-MW Pagbilao Unit 3.
