TotalEnergies to build solar rooftop system for Real Steel

MANILA  -Solar power developer TotalEnergies ENEOS has partnered with Pampanga-based steel manufacturer Real Steel Corp. to build a rooftop solar system at the latter’s manufacturing facility in the municipality of San Simon.

In a statement, Real Steel said TotalEnergies would develop a 16.8-megawatt-peak rooftop solar PV system to help reduce operational expenses.

The company said it would be the largest rooftop solar PV system in the country with more than 22,000 solar modules set to be installed.

“By implementing the largest rooftop solar PV system in the Philippines, we are accelerating the production of lower carbon, high-quality steel products for the Philippine market,” Real Steel chief financial officer William Chen said.

Under the agreement, TotalEnergies will install and maintain the solar PV system, while Real Steel will serve as the operator and owner of the asset.

TotalEnergies has been developing solar-powered facilities since 1972. It currently has 12 gigawatts of installed capacity from its businesses across Southeast Asia, Japan and India.

According to the company, the San Simon solar facility is expected to generate 26,000 megawatt-hours of renewable electricity yearly and reduce Real Steel’s carbon emissions by around 12,800 tons of carbon dioxide annually.
