NSCB lends hand to Korea, Bhutan

As part of its international cooperation program, the National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB) said that its experts shared best practices with Korean and Bhutan statisticians.

NSCB secretary general Romulo A. Virola said in a statement that NSCB had hosted briefings on “Improving Statistical Capability for Assessing Progress in Achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)” and “Best Practices on Using Stata in the Generation of Official Poverty Statistics in the Philippines” for Korean and Bhutan statisticians, respectively.

Fifteen officials from the Central Bureau of Statistics of South Korea visited the NSCB last June 2 as part of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (Unescap) Training Course on Improving Statistical Capability for Assessing Progress in Achieving the MDGs, in partnership with the Statistical Research Training Center.

During their study visit to NSCB, the Korean statisticians were briefed on the 2011-2017 Philippine Statistical Development Program by OIC director Cynthia S. Regalado of the Programs, Policies, and Standards Office and on the dissemination practices in achieving the MDGs in the Philippines by OIC director Jessamyn O. Encarnacion of the Social Statistics Office (SSO).

Meanwhile, four officials from the National Bureau of Statistics of Bhutan visited the NSCB last June 6 as part of their study tour in the Philippines, coordinated by the Paibare Legacy Corps, a fellowship of development professionals committed to enabling people to help themselves through training, project, community organizing, and organizational development.
