The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has partnered with the private sector to step up its consumer rights education drive, expanding the reach of its campaign as part of its efforts to promote consumer welfare in the country.

Trade Undersecretary Ruth Castelo, who heads the DTI’s consumer protection group, said they have partnered with the Out of Home Advertising Association of the Philippines (OHAAP) to help them spread awareness about the rights of consumers today.

“If this partnership with the private sector will be continuous, more people will be made aware of all (our) advocacy programs on consumer protection,” Castelo said during their Saturday morning radio program at the DZbb station.

OHAAP president Daryl Abueva, whose trade group comprises billboard operators and other advertisement platforms in public and private transportation, said they will help the DTI publicize information on consumer rights and welfare, as well as their advocacy programs.

“[The billboards are located] usually along Edsa and C-5, and we have also members in Cebu, Davao and other places in the Philippines,” Abueva said, noting the reach of their platforms in the country.
