Protecting data more expensive with multiple vendors

It will bode well for companies to simplify their data protection by using a single platform to reduce the likelihood of disruptions in their operations, according to Dell Technologies Inc.

In its 2022 Dell Global Data Protection Index survey, the technology firm noted that organizations using a single data protection vendor spent 34 percent less in costs related to addressing cyberattacks or other cyber incidents compared to those employing multiple platforms.

Entities using multiple data protection platforms also deal with more cyber incidents, including cyberattacks preventing access to data, unplanned system downtime and data loss, the study noted.

Majority of the surveyed respondents, as such, see the “benefit in reducing their number of vendors.”

“With virtually everything connected to the internet in today’s digital world, the need to protect valuable data is more important than ever,” said Jeff Boudreau, president and general manager at the Infrastructure Solutions Group of Dell.

“This digital landscape requires a modern data protection and security strategy to address cyber threats,” he added.

A previous study by Dell showed that only 8 percent of Philippine enterprises and organizations were able to digitally pivot immediately amid the rise of hybrid work setup during the pandemic.

Still, 55 percent said they were ready to adapt to technological advancements.

“Definitely, I think more and more companies are recognizing [this need]. Those who are a bit slow will see the benefits and the necessity to drive transformation and accelerate transformation,” Dell Philippines country general manager Ronnie Latinazo said previously.

However, some 36 percent said they were holding back and just observing for now to see how the digital transformation impacted other organizations. About 2 percent were resisting digital adoption.

“Most organizations around the world – including Philippines – realize the need to digitally transform, but they find digital transformation hard, and their people don’t always embrace change,” Latinazo explained.
