SBSI’s President won PRC’s 2021 Outstanding Professional of the Year Award for Medical Technology
Makati City, Manila – The Outstanding Professional of the Year award is the highest award bestowed by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) in recognition of professionals with exemplary achievements in their respective fields. The criteria for this award are the following: demonstrated competence of the highest degree, participated meaningfully in professional activities through the professional organization, contributed significantly to the advancement of profession, and served in professional social responsibility in socio-related activities.
Roberto G. Manaois, RMT, DBA, the current President & CEO of Scientific Biotech Specialties, Inc., (SBSI) won this award for the medical technology profession this year.
After more than two decades of being the president of SBSI, he displayed unparalleled competence in his profession. He managed to expand and build the company from having four employees to now more than 150 employees nationwide. According to Mr. Manaois, the success of the firm stems from a strong partnership with its stakeholders. He said, “We do not only provide solutions to and help our customers improve their value chain and service offering for their patients, but we also help them innovate their clinical laboratory services.”
Mr. Manaois started his humble beginnings in the industry back in 1992, after finishing his BS Medical Technology course from the Far Eastern University-Nicanor Reyes Medical Foundation (FEU-NRMF). He earned his license given by the PRC as a registered medical technologist (RMT) in the same year. In 2010, the FEU-NRMF Alumni association awarded him the Most Outstanding Alumni. In 2011, he earned his MBA-Regis Program at the Ateneo de Manila University finishing with a silver medal academic excellence award. In 2019, he pursued further education earning him the degree of Doctor of Business Administration at San Beda University Graduate School of Business with an exceptional academic award by graduating Summa Cum Laude. He also got the gold medal for best dissertation in his batch and received the St. Benedict’s Visionary Award given by the rector of the university.
As early as 1994, he had been consistently contributing to his profession by conducting lectures and workshops in different chapters of the Philippine Association of Medical Technologists (PAMET). His team pioneered the development of Microbiology in clinical laboratories by introducing the bioMerieux Vitek system nationwide. This contributed significantly in the practice of Medical Technology in the Philippines. In 2021, he was appointed Chair for Professional Development Committee of PAMET where he and his team develop learning programs for the growth and further professional development of medical technologists.
With his vast knowledge acquired over the years, he was invited to share and teach at various universities as an industry practitioner. From 2013 up to present, he has been a faculty at San Beda University where he was awarded as one of the most outstanding faculty of the graduate school of business. He is also a faculty at Lyceum of the Philippines University Batangas, Master of Science in Medical Laboratory Science. And in 2020, he started teaching at the University of Sto. Tomas, Faculty of Pharmacy, Department of Medical Technology. In August 2021 he also taught at the UST Graduate School.
His scholarly contribution resulted in a total of four publications and two academic paper presentations. His recent publication was published on September 2020, at the Research Journal of the San Beda University, Manila entitled, “Sustaining Performance through Competency Diagnosis and Improvement: An Insider Action Research”.
Serving others has always been part of Mr. Manaois’ passion in life. In 2016, he became a Board of Director and Vice President for Planning of The Great Lighthouse Foundation up to present. He shared resources to the community by constantly offering healthcare services through SBSI’s products, systems and its people to the foundation to help the less fortunate, marginalized, and underprivileged members of our society. He also sits as one of the Board of Trustees at the Far East Broadcasting Company, a sentinel communicating the Good News to the nations.
His efforts of transforming, not only the company he built, but more importantly the lives of people that he led have been the most important aspect in his profession and life. Through his determination and undying passion, he inspires a lot of people especially the next generation of leaders and aspiring medical technologists.
