San Miguel Corp. (SMC) has announced the partial opening of the northbound section of the Skyway extension project in Metro Manila.

On April 11, the food, drinks and infrastructure conglomerate said two of three lanes of the 4-kilometer segment were opened to motorists and toll fees were waived “until further notice.”

The northbound section runs from Susana Heights to Sucat in Parañaque.

It provides a direct link to the elevated Skyway system, allowing motorists to bypass the Alabang viaduct, cutting congestion in the area.

“Our long-term solution to addressing traffic particularly on SLEx [South Luzon Expressway] heading to the Alabang area has finally been realized,” SMC president Ramon Ang said in a statement.

Ang also thanked the government for its support.

“This would not have been possible without the support of our government, led by President Duterte and the ‘Build, Build, Build’ team, who have helped us in so many ways to complete this project,” he said.

SMC said the new project would further ease road congestion in Edsa and reduce travel time between the southern and northern areas of Metro Manila.

Apart from the Skyway, SMC operates the South Luzon Expressway, Naia Expressway, Star Tollway and Tarlac Pangasinan La Union Expressway.
