/ 05:10 AM February 11, 2021

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) said the construction of the new Bicol International Airport has reached an overall progress rate above 74 percent. Expected to serve 2 million passengers a year once completed, the DOTr said the gateway would help rev economic activity and tourism in what it called the country’s “most scenic gateway.” The DOTr also announced progress in the airport’s individual phases. As of Feb. 3, Package 2A hit 89.78 percent, it said. This covers the airport’s landside facilities, such as the administration building, air traffic control building, crash fire rescue building and the maintenance building. Package 2B of the airport project is now 52.7-percent complete. This covers the construction of the passenger terminal building, taxiway, runway extension and other site development works. —MIGUEL R.
