Okada Manila’s parent company, UniversalEntertainment Corporation (UEC), have renewed its commitment to help the Philippine government recover from the COVID-19 pandemic by donating 5,000 units of state-of-theart UV-C irradiation devices to the Department of Health (DOH).

UEC Chairman, President, CEO, CIO Jun Fujimoto presented sample units of the devices to Philippine Ambassador to Japan Jose C. Laurel V during a courtesy call in November 2020.

The device uses a special technique that kills bacteria and viruses in a short time by irradiating UV-C254nm, which is the wavelength with the strongest bactericidal and inactivating effect. It has the capacity to inactivate 99% of COVID-19 particles in about 0.5 seconds at a distance of 1 centimeter and 40.1 seconds at 30 centimeters. The device is made from Japan and is exclusively used by UEC in its premises.

This is the second donation of UEC to the Philippine government since the start of the pandemic. Last year in June, UEC donated 500,000 pieces of facemasks as part of its countermeasures against the spread of COVID-19.

The formal turnover of donations will be held on February 8 at Okada Manila’s Grand Ballroom. Special guests in attendance will be His Excellency Koshikawa Kazuhiko, Ambassador-designate of Japan to the Philippine Embassy of Japan in the Philippines, Kenji Sugiyama, Director of the Board of Okada Manila, and Department of Health’s Undersecretary and Chief of Staff Leopoldo J. Vega.
