Converge ICT Solutions Inc. announced a major upgrade of its internet backbone as it seeks to cut network outages while meeting rising demand.

Converge, one of the country’s largest fiber internet companies, said in a stock exchange filing on Wednesday it connected a third core node in Metro Manila to its sprawling broadband network.

‘Fault tolerant’

This allows the company to manage internet traffic more efficiently and provide backup capabilities should outages occur.

“A third core backbone node will enable a robust and redundant traffic routing in the network, making it more fault tolerant,” Converge explained in its statement.

The company’s main network previously activated two core nodes: one is also in Metro Manila and another in Pampanga province.

“Our expansion efforts are running at an unprecedented pace. And we know that network capabilities need to be more so we can serve everyone as best as we could,” Converge founder and CEO Dennis Anthony Uy said in the filing.

Higher capacity

Moreover, Converge increased its international capacity to 1.5 terabits per second. Higher capacity would allow the company to meet increasing requirements for expansion.

“We are consistently working hard so our services can provide what our customers need: a reliable network from a company they can trust, especially at this time when the internet has become a necessity to all of us, ” Uy said in the statement.

Uy previously apologized to customers for network outages and promised to upgrade service quality.

The company’s ongoing fiber rollout includes its expansion in the Visayas and Mindanao by the first semester of 2021.
