Interior decorating in the new normal

/ 04:24 AM July 11, 2020

Many of us have been spending our days at home due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Our time indoors, however, offers a great opportunity to clean our living spaces and rid ourselves of things we no longer need. On top of this, it is also a chance to redecorate and spruce up our homes according to our ever-changing tastes and preferences.

But where to start? The concept of redecorating a space can be overwhelming for some, given all the trends and inspiration “pegs” you can easily find online. Apart from this, we also have to be smart about our purchases and look at their quality, value for money, and functionality. It’s important to take into consideration how long you can use a piece and how versatile it is, most especially when it comes to furniture.

The pandemic gave us an opportunity to redecorate our spaces.

Work-life balance

Because many of us are now working remotely, the lines of work-life balance have been blurred, given the increased time spent in the home office. Having ergonomically-sound and functional pieces can create a world of a difference for our work spaces at home, and even affect our ability to work. The perfect desk, a comfortable office chair, and the right lighting will not only help in making work spaces aesthetically pleasing, but also in inspiring us to get into right mindset.

Making space for our headspace

As we safely practice social distancing in our homes, we become more aware of how our living spaces—the way they are designed and the furniture we have—can greatly affect our moods and physical comfort. Gone are the days when we simply only have to consider proximity, interaction with objects, and physical health. We now need to consider how we can help improve and maintain our mental well-being through lighting, materials, and even sound and acoustics.

The right furniture pieces in your home can inspire you.

Movable and modular magic

Investing in a modular, sectional sofa is one of the best things you can do to save some money when buying furniture. The beauty behind these kinds of pieces is that they offer you the versatility to change the arrangement of your rooms while maintaining a level of elegance and stylish aesthetics. With modular sofas, you are able to rearrange spaces depending on your personal style, mood, the ambience you want to create, or the amount of available space in your home.

Sectional sofa allows you to frequently rearrange your space.

Shopping safely

After looking for inspiration, coming up with ideas, and listing pieces you want changed or upgraded, the next step, of course, would be to procure these new pieces for your home. While there are many stores, both local and international, to choose from, one of my favorite places to get furniture from is PLC107 Furniture, which houses many chic and luxurious pieces in its Makati showroom. It even has an online catalogue that you can view and browse through in the comfort of your own homes. Its pieces are stylish and timeless, at prices that do not break the bank.

If you want to view and experience the furniture pieces firsthand before purchasing them, PLC107 Furniture’s private showroom is located at La Fuerza Compound, along Don Chino Roces Avenue in Makati and is open Monday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. PLC107 Furniture constantly sanitizes its showroom and its pieces with Sanosil disinfectant solutions to ensure the health of both its staff and customers, as well as the cleanliness of its furniture without affecting the make and quality.
