CITY OF MEYCAUAYAN—Health workers on the frontline of the battle with COVID-19 have had free passage on North Luzon Expressway (NLEx) and Subic Clark Tarlac Expressway (SCTEx).

Operator Metro Pacific Tollway said it waived P2.95 million worth of toll for 3,610 “heroes who put their lives on the line.”

“During this extended ECQ, we remain committed to prioritize the unhampered movement of essential workers and basic commodities,” said J. Luigi Bautista, NLEX Corp. president and general manager.

To date, the tollway company said it has granted special and exclusive access along the NLEX to over 300 vehicles of the Inter-Agency Task Force quarantine teams, employees of the Department of Health, medical support groups and patients bound for the “We Heal As One Center” quarantine facility at the Philippine Arena Complex.

“These efforts are part of our company’s latest string of initiatives to support the government in its fight against COVID-19,” Bautista said.

“Aside from keeping the supply chain moving, we also continue bringing our corporate social responsibility to the forefront of our operations,” said Bautista.

MPTC and NLEX recently donated food packs to quarantine villages surrounding the network of expressways.

The companies also provided free shuttle to health care professionals to hospitals, provided 350 hospital beds for quarantine facilities and donated PPE to public hospitals.
