Group seeks relief for electricity consumers

The Laban Konsyumer (LKI) group is calling on firms that run power plants to lower the costs passed on to consumers considering that electricity demand has dropped since the start of the enhanced community quarantine.

According to the Department of Energy, electricity consumption went down by about 30 percent because the quarantine resulted in the shutdown of many industrial and commercial establishments.

LKI president Vic Dimagiba said in a statement there should be automatic provisions on power supply contracts that would provide relief to consumers, many of whom have been rendered jobless because of the limitations on people’s movements and on the operation of businesses not deemed essential.
