BOC-NAIA continues to expedite release of imported items for fighting COVID-19

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) can now use 57,600 COVID-19 test kits from the Alibaba Foundation of Chinese business magnate Jack Ma, the release of which have been expedited by the Bureau of Customs (BOC) at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

The BOC made the announcement in a statement issued on Friday.

The test kits — which were coursed through the Manny Pacquiao Foundation — are intended to help the DOH in its fight against the new coronavirus disease, or COVID-19.

Since March 9, 2020, to date, the BOC-NAIA has expedited the release of 1,616 importations and foreign donations of medical supplies and shipments of personal protective equipment (PPE).

Under the directive of Customs Commissioner Rey Leonardo B. Guerrero the BOC, the BOC has been facilitating the quick release of PPEs with the cooperation of the Manila International Container Port, the Port of Manila, the Port of Cebu, the Port of Clark, the Port of Limay, and other ports.

The BOC continues to provide public service and prioritizes the processing of all PPE and medical emergency supplies amid the threat of COVID-19.
