/ 04:05 AM December 25, 2019

Bidders are being sought to improve water supply in the provinces of Laguna and Quezon, the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Center said.

The PPP Center, with local government water districts, launched the qualification process for the 20-year development and supply contract of the Lumbo Spring Bulk Water Supply project.

Requiring an estimated investment budget of P103.4 million, the project is being implemented by the San Pablo City Water District and the Dolores Water District.

This involves tapping the Lumbo Spring, located south of San Pablo City in Laguna and to the west of Dolores town in Quezon, and the development of water transmission pipes.

The current water sources from the two water districts mainly come from springs and deep wells. SPCWD already noted potential risks due to the presence of “high iron and manganese” content, part of the project information statement showed.

“To avert such problems, there is a need for SPCWD to look for alternative source(s) like spring and possibly surface waters, ensuring in the process, ecological balance,” it said.

DWD, meanwhile, said demand was growing and the current water supply was inadequate. INQ
