Manila Water bags 2 more deals outside metro

As the supply situation in Metro Manila barely improved, Manila Water Co. Inc. yesterday announced it had signed joint venture agreements (JVA) with two more water districts outside the metropolis.

One agreement is with the Calbayog City Water District in Samar, covering the design, construction, rehabilitation, maintenance, operation, financing, expansion and management of the water and wastewater system.

For this 25-year endeavor, Manila Water has set up subsidiary Calbayog Water Co. Inc. Tubig Pilipinas Group will be a strategic partner.

Capital expenses set at P1.2 billion would cover a system that has potential billed water volume of 28.43 million liters per day (MLD) by 2043 when the agreement expires.

It also signed a  35-year deal with Lambunao Water District in Iloilo. This has potential billed volume of 2.93 MLD by the deal’s end and would require capital expenses of P79 million.

In its main business, the East Zone concession with the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System, Manila Water said it had completed a pipelaying and road restoration project that stretched 11 kilometers and involved pipes with a diameter of 800 millimeters. The project traverses the towns of Taytay, Angono and Binangonan in Rizal.

According to Pagasa, the stock level in the Angat Dam continued to rise as of Wednesday morning, reaching 161.08 meters above sea level (masl). Water level at the La Mesa Dam also rose to 72.35 masl.
