Globe myBusiness, GDAP upskill teachers through weekend game development activity
Globe myBusiness, the micro, small, and medium enterprise arm of Globe Telecom, has partnered with the Game Development Association of the Philippines (GDAP) in giving practical experience to programming and multimedia teachers by having them collaborate to develop games in the first ever Academic Game Jam.
GDAP is a trade association established in 2007 to represent and promote the country’s game development industry. Its members create and publish interactive games and entertainment content for various platforms.
Through the Academic Game Jam held at The Globe Tower recently, 12 teachers from eight schools were given an opportunity to plan, design, and develop their ideas into new games to better equip them when teaching programming and multimedia arts.
With the recent introduction of the new Entertainment and Multimedia Computing bachelor’s degree which is essentially the country’s CHED-approved game development course, schools need to equip their programming and multimedia faculty, not just in skill, but also in actual experience in making games.
“We are a partner of the IT-business process management (IT-BPM) industry in the Philippines where GDAP belongs to. At the same time, we are doing our part in enhancing the professional development of our teachers through academe-industry activities such as the Academic Game Jam. Thus, we support GDAP’s efforts to encourage innovative, experiential instruction to make game development learning more exciting and effective for both teachers and students,” said Debbie Obias, vice president of segment marketing for Globe myBusiness.
