Firm running Clark airport gets new head

01:04 AM October 17, 2018

CLARK FREEPORT — The son of former Supreme Court Justice Jose Melo is the new president of the state-owned Clark International Airport Corp. (Ciac), taking over the post vacated by Alexander Cauguiran, who is running for mayor of Angeles City.

Jaime Melo assumed office on Monday after Cauguiran reported on the state of affairs at Clark International Airport (CRK), which President Rodrigo Duterte ordered developed to solve the air traffic woes of Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

CRK handles 280 domestic flights and 160 international flights weekly. At least 1,938,605 passengers chose to fly to and from CRK from January until Oct. 15.

Airport revenues jumped from P673 million to nearly P1 billion in mid-October, with net profits rising from P77 million in 2016 to P177 million in 2017, enabling Ciac to remit P86 million to the national treasury, Cauguiran said. —Tonette Orejas
