DTI to ensure good practices in IT-BPM industry

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) wants to develop and adopt national standards for the Information Technology and Business Process Management (IT-BPM) industry.

In a statement on Thursday, the DTI said its attached agency Bureau of Philippine Standards (BPS) reactivated its technical committee for this purpose.

The DTI said the industry needed support in maintaining good practices such as enhanced operational efficiency, improved customer service and increased product and service innovation.

Trade Undersecretary Ruth Castelo said the industry has been known for operational efficiency and customer service for several years now.

“Thus, through standardization programs, DTI aims not only to align business functions with customer needs, but also to enhance their productivity by reduction of costs and minimization of errors and risks,” she said.

The members of the committee are from the public and private sectors. They are from the following: IT and Business Processing Association of the Philippines (Ibpap), Animation Council of the Philippines (Acpi), Global In-house Center Council of the Philippines (GICC), Healthcare Information Management Association of the Philippines (Himap), Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), Board of Investments (BOI), DTI–Export Marketing Bureau (EMB) and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda).

The DTI-BPS is the National Standards Body of the Philippines. It is the Philippines’ representative to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).

It develops, adopts, reviews and promulgates Philippine National Standards with the help of technical committees whose members are from the academe, government, consumer, testing institutions and industries. —ROY STEPHEN C. CANIVEL
