MPTC opens part of southbound flyover

The operator of the Cavite Expressway partially opened its southbound flyover, which will cut traffic congestion by allowing motorists alternative access between Pacific Avenue and Cavitex.

Metro Pacific Tollways Corp., through MPT South Corp., yesterday said it had opened two out of four lanes of the flyover. The rest of the project will likely be completed by early September, it added.

“This partial opening will help ease traffic while we continue with the rest of Phase 1 of the construction enhancement works,” said Luigi L. Bautista, president of Cavitex Infrastructure Corp., one of the concessions of MPTC.

The second phase of the Cavitex enhancement works consists of the bridge widening, at the Wawa, Las Piñas area.

Both phases involved an investment of about P1 billion, MPTC said.

As noted, the southbound fly-over aims to improve traffic management at the intersection of Pacific Drive and Cavitex. This was previously managed via a “stop and go signaling system” before the partial opening of the flyover.

“The partial opening of the flyover has made a difference in improving the flow of traffic and passage of vehicles in Cavitex. Motorists will feel the full benefits of its ongoing enhancements once all of the lanes of this facility are opened and all the other enhancements are completed,” Mark Villar, public works and highways secretary, said.

The Cavitex is part of a road network being expanded by MPTC.

It will connect to the 7.7-kilometer C5-Southlink which will traverse Taguig, Las Piñas, Parañaque and the 45-km Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CalaEx) up to Mamplasan, Biñan, Laguna.
