The Department of Energy is revving up its campaign to promote the use of electric tricycles with the donation of 900 units of e-trikes to the local governments of Pateros town and the cities of Las Piñas, Muntinlupa and Valenzuela.

Energy Secretary Alfonso G. Cusi yesterday signed with the respective mayors of the four LGUs separate memorandums of agreement (MOA) on the receipt of the e-trikes.

“The DOE E-Trike project encourages the transition from oil to cleaner sources of energy,” Cusi said during the signing ceremony held in Taguig City.

“The 900 units to be given to the four cities will benefit many communities, in terms of livelihood and the services that it can provide to the people,” Cusi said.

The donation includes 100 e-trickes for Las Piñas, 150 for Muntinlupa,  400 for Pateros, and 250 for Valenzuela

The LGUs, based on the MOA, were obliged to comply with the documentary requirements,  among other prerequisites, such as the crafting of their proposal for the use of the e-trikes.

The donation to the Metro Manila LGUs followed the grant of 200 units of e-trikes to Marawi City as rehabilitation efforts gathered pace. —RONNEL W. DOMINGO
