Energy efficiency campaign pushed

/ 05:15 AM December 23, 2017

A local cooling technology company says an energy efficiency campaign would save both consumers and companies billions of pesos from reduced demand and consumption.

Hi-Cool Engineering Corp. (HCEC) said it was supporting the Department of Energy (DOE) and the efforts of some lawmakers to establish a national policy that promotes energy efficiency.

“We see the urgency of promoting energy efficiency because it is key to economic growth and sustainability and it will promote the competitive edge of local companies,” Theresa Acedillo Lapuz, HCEC director, said.

Lapuz said cooling systems for manufacturers and commercial establishments account for as much as 60 percent of electricity consumption based on Department of Energy (DOE) data.

Lapuz said one client, International Wiring Systems (Phils.) Corp. (IWSP), was recently given the Don Emilio Abello Energy Efficiency Award after the manufacturer retrofitted its cooling system from an air-cooled type system to a water-cooled screw-type packaged system.

IWSP, with a workforce of 6,000, supplies car manufacturers in Southeast Asia with automotive wiring harnesses.

She said HCEC was supporting Senate Bill 1531, the proposed “Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act of 2017,” which seeks to manage and restrain the growth of energy consumption through the adoption of “technologically feasible, economically sound, environment-friendly and socially affordable measures.”
