Liter of Light, Philux create ‘Green Mobile Home’
When Illac Diaz, executive director of the Liter of Light Global Foundation, reached out to Philux with the idea of promoting energy sustainability, it was nothing short of exciting.
Sisters and Philux business partners Stephanie Kienle Gonzalez (COO) and Jessica Kienle Maxwell (head designer) immediately got to work on designing the interiors of what would soon become known as the Green Mobile Home.
Using sustainably grown Acacia wood and green upholstery to pay homage to earthy, natural elements, the restored vintage VW Kombi van is now ready to begin its adventure.
In line with its mission to promote clean energy, the van utilizes 600 watts of Green Heat solar panels installed on its roof to power it. In addition, the lights are LEDs by L&S, while its power sockets by Mainline Power are fire safe.
Liter of Light made headlines for its ingenious use of old plastic bottles by filling them with water and bleach and then installing them on rooftops, thereby refracting sunlight during the daytime. The Foundation has already lit some 850,000 homes and counting, across poor communities throughout the Philippines.
