The country’s economic managers will go to Tokyo next week to firm up the infrastructure projects to be pitched for financing by the Japanese government.

In a statement, the Department of Finance said Finance Secretary Carlos G. Dominguez III would lead the Philippine delegation to the Joint Committee on Philippines-Japan Infrastructure and Economic Cooperation meeting on March 27-28.

The meeting will serve as a follow-through to last year’s visit of President Duterte to Japan as well as Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s visit to the Philippines last January.

The DOF noted that Abe had committed up to one trillion yen in official development assistance as well as investments in the Philippines in the next five years.

“The Dominguez-led delegation is expected to present the Philippines’ medium term development plan and update Japanese officials on the country’s macroeconomic situation during the joint committee meeting,” the DOF said.

Joining Dominguez in Tokyo are Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Ernesto M. Pernia, Budget Secretary Benjamin E. Diokno, Public Works Secretary Mark Villar, Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi, as well as Senator Alan Peter Cayetano. —BEN O. DE VERA
