Mindanao receives boost as biggest power plant links up with grid
A power unit of the Filinvest group of companies has synchronized the first unit of its flagship 405-megawatt project with the Mindanao electricity grid, the company said Tuesday.
In a statement, FDC Misamis Power Corp. (FDC Misamis) vice chair Andrew Gotianun Jr. said the connection of what would be the biggest power plant in Mindanao “is in line with the Duterte administration’s thrust to promote regional growth, most especially in Mindanao.”
Located on the Phividec Industrial Estate in Villanueva, Misamis Oriental, the power plant is a multibillion peso investment that uses the latest in clean coal technology: the circulating fluidized bed (CFB) boiler technology. Considered the cleanest process to burning coal, the technology is also known for having higher steam generator efficiency, thus lowering carbon emissions.
FDC Misamis is a subsidiary of FDC Utilities Inc. (FDCUI) and a part of the Gotianun-led Filinvest Development Corp.
“Commercial operations areexpected after the completion of reliability tests in the coming weeks,” FDC Misamis head Juan Eugenio Roxas said. Contractual commitments have already been secured for more than 80 percent of the project’s net capacity. Daxim L. Lucas
