MRT-3 exec Vitangol files perjury complaint vs Czech ambassador
MANILA, Philippines—The beleaguered general manager of the Metro Rail Transit (MRT) has slapped its accuser Czech Ambassador Josef Rychtar with a perjury complaint in the Makati prosecutor’s office.
The management of the Department of Transportation and Communications-MRT 3 announced on Tuesday the filing of the criminal complaint of Al Vitangcol III against Rychtar who had earlier accused him of extortion.
In media interviews, Rychtar said the MRT chief attempted to extort $30 million from Czech train coach builder Inekon Group in July 2012.
The ambassador said Vitangcol through Wilson De Vera, a member of the Liberal Party who lost the mayoral race in Calasiao town in Pangasinan last elections, asked Inekon to pay $30 million to win the contract for 48 coaches for the MRT.
“This action is personal to Atty. Vitangcol and has nothing to do with DOTC MRT 3 thus the DOTC-MRT3 or any of its officers will not answer any queries relative to the said case,” the DOTC-MRT3 statement reads.
