GMA, ABS-CBN claim ratings lead for November

GMA Network Inc. continued to lead daytime ratings last month in key urban areas in Luzon, including Metro Manila, the company claimed in a statement.

Citing data from Nielsen TV Audience Measurement, GMA said its Urban Luzon total day audience share hit 35.8 percent, higher than rival ABS-CBN Corp.’s 32.5 percent. TV5 got 11.1 percent, it added.

For Mega Manila, GMA also claimed a lead in ratings last month, having cornered an audience share of 36.8 percent against 30.1 percent for ABS-CBN and 12 percent for TV5.

Urban Luzon and Mega Manila represent 77 and 59 percent, respectively, of the total urban television households in the country, the statement showed.

In a statement on Tuesday, ABS-CBN, a unit of the Lopez clan’s Lopez Holdings Corp., claimed that it led nationwide ratings for November.

Citing Kantar Media’s survey, ABS-CBN said it scored an average audience share of 44 percent against main rival GMA Network’s 33 percent during the period.

For the valuable prime-time time slot, which runs from 6 p.m. to 12 midnight, ABS-CBN claimed a 48-percent share against 32 percent for GMA.

ABS-CBN said in a statement that its morning block  recorded an average audience share of 37 percent against GMA’s 33 percent.  It claimed 41 percent and 43 percent for the early and late afternoon blocks, respectively, against GMA’s 37 percent and 32 percent.

For Balance Luzon, or areas in Luzon outside Mega Manila, ABS-CBN claimed an average audience share of 51 percent compared to GMA’s 33 percent.

The lead was higher in Visayas where ABS-CBN recorded 65 percent against 20 percent for GMA. In Mindanao, ABS-CBN led GMA 62 percent to 23 percent, the statement showed.

Kantar Media uses a nationwide panel size of 2,609 urban and rural homes that represent 100 percent of the total Philippine TV viewing population, ABS-CBN said.

GMA noted that Nielsen TV Audience Measurement gathers data based on a sample size of 1,190 homes in Mega Manila. It also uses a nationwide urban sample size of 2,000 homes.
