Sneak Peek: Lamborghini Gallardo ‘The Final Edition’

/ 02:51 AM March 06, 2013

With more than 13,000 units produced, the Gallardo is the most successful model in Lamborghini history.

If the suffix “The Final Edition” sounds foreboding, worry not: they are merely an indication that the Lamborghini Gallardo will soon be replaced by an all-new car with a new name. Meanwhile, for those who want to give in to their inner Bruce Wayne, this is your last chance to buy a brand-new example of the current model.

What is it: A special edition of the Gallardo LP 560-4, designed to lend more appeal to an already desirable model, before the aforementioned model switch.

Design: As Alfred Pennyworth pointed out, Lamborghinis are anything but subtle. The low-slung bodywork, clocking in at below 1200mm height, is accentuated by its simple, tightly raked lines. The front end features sharply-cut triangular and trapezoidal elements such as the headlamps and front air intakes. New 19-inch polished alloy wheels are painted in matt black and have machined spokes in polished silver. An available Style Package adds high-gloss black paintwork on the underside of the front spoiler, front and rear grilles and the transverse element of the rear trim.

Engine and transmission: As its name affirms, this Gallardo has 560 hp, fed through an all-wheel drive system. With 540 Nm of torque from the 5.2-liter V10, the sports car can accelerate from 0-100 kph in 4.0 seconds on to a top speed 325 kph. The mid-engine is mounted longitudinally, hence the Longitudinale Posteriore designation. This results in a 43 front/57 percent rear weight distribution for optimal handling.

Suspension: The Gallardo is built using an aluminum spaceframe, with aluminum panels hung on a lightweight frame. Likewise, the double wishbones up front are made from this metal for superior stiffness. The rear axle incorporates an additional track rod for better control. Rubber-metal bearings help the driving dynamics.
