NEW YORK—US stocks scored gains Monday on the eve of the presidential vote, with President Barack Obama and Republican challenger Mitt Romney locked neck-and-neck in the race for the White House.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 19.89 points (0.15 percent) at 13,113.05 in closing trade.
The broad-based S&P 500 advanced 3.06 (0.22 percent) to 1,417.26, and the Nasdaq Composite was the best performer, adding 17.53 (0.59 percent) at 2,999.66.
After opening mixed, stocks clawed their way to a positive finish ahead of Tuesday’s election.
The political uncertainty has kept market conviction corralled, “along with continued uneasiness in the eurozone toward the fiscal challenges in Greece and Spain,” Charles Schwab & Co. analysts said.
