In a statement sent via e-mail, Toyota said it is recalling Camry, Corolla, RAV4, Vios and Yaris models because of faulty electric windows. These models are mostly manufactured in Japan and Thailand.
“In line with our commitment to produce safety and quality, Toyota has initiated a Special Service Campaign (SSC) for specific Camry, Corolla, RAV4, Vios and Yaris models produced from 2006 to 2010,” the company said.
The move is part of Toyota’s worldwide recall of 7.4 million vehicles, the company’s largest for a single part.
The affected vehicles have a sliding electrical contact point in the driver’s side power window master switch that may experience a “notchy” or “sticking feeling” during operation which causes the button to get stuck.
Toyota warned that if vehicles are serviced in non-Toyota dealer and commercially available lubricant is used, the switch assembly may melt.
The recall in the Philippines is part of a global recall of 7.43 million vehicles.
Toyota said it is already starting to identify and inform owners of affected vehicles. Riza T. Olchondra
