During her trips to Holland, full-time mom Maribel Bosch enjoyed eating kroket, a famous potato snack in the Netherlands.

It was her love for the food and her passion for cooking that made her decide to enter into a food-cart business that sells kroket with a Filipino twist.

“When I tasted the product, I really fell in love with it,” says Bosch, a native of Laguna.

Kroket (Dutch word for a little round ball) is usually served in fancy restaurants in the country, she says.

But with Kroketten food stall, Filipinos can enjoy the crunchy potato snack at an affordable price.

“In Holland, you can buy kroket at the grocery, vending machines or at the airport. I have long been wanting to bring it to the Philippines,” she says.

During the conceptualization phase for Kroketten, Bosch’s aim was to introduce kroket to the Filipino masses so it would gain the same popularity it enjoys in Holland.

Before opening the first stall in April last year at the Festival Mall in Muntinlupa City, Bosch and her team joined bazaars and consulted Francorp, an expert in franchise development.

“Towards the end of 2010, I started to put up a team to conceptualize the project. We started working and perfecting the recipe,” she says.

Kroketten offers there varieties—original kroket, kroketballen and miniballen—for only P35.

The original kroket is the oblong shape with ground beef, chicken and cheese while kroketballen, by far the best-seller, has three pieces of crunchy potato balls, which come with dips.

The miniballen has bite-sized potato balls in assorted flavors including cheese, chicken, beef, bacon and hotdog. There are also Filipino-style flavors such as longganisa, pork adobo, mango, and tuyo flakes.

Bosch added that Kroketten is a healthy choice as it uses corn oil for deep frying and real cheese, chicken, beef, bacon, pork and hotdog as ingredients.

Kroketten is located at SM Mall of Asia, Festival Mall Alabang, Alabang Town Center, GT Tower Makati, Market! Market!, Starmall Edsa Shaw, Robinsons Galleria, Robinsons Metro East, SM North Edsa and SM Lipa Batangas.
