All-new Chevrolet Trailblazer ready for major launch

THE TRAILBLAZER is about durability and style.

The Trailblazer, Chevrolet’s tough new “haul-anything, go-anywhere” SUV, has finally reached our shores.

First previewed during the 33rd Bangkok International Motor Show early this year, The Covenant Car Company Inc. (exclusive importer and distributor of Chevrolet automobiles and parts in the Philippines) brought two variants: the 2.8-liter, 6-speed automatic that delivers 180 hp and 470 Nm of torque and the 2.5-liter, 5-speed manual that delivers 110 hp and 350 Nm of torque.

Both Trailblazers are powered by GM’s new four-cylinder Duramax turbo-diesel engines (feature a variable-geometry turbocharger for optimal power and efficiency across the engine’s revolution band, and a balancer-shaft for greater smoothness) that offer optimal balance of power, performance and fuel economy.

The all-new Trailblazer range boasts an impressive array of active and passive safety features including: Electronic Stability Control, Anti-lock Braking System, Hydraulic Brake Assist, Traction Control, Dynamic Rear Brake Proportioning (first use of Rear Drive Brake in the market), Electronic Brake-force Distribution, Panic Brake Assist, Engine Drag Control, Hill Descent Control, and Driver and Occupant Air Bag Protection.

“The all-new Chevrolet Trailblazer is a midsize sports utility vehicle made for families who want power, capability, refinement and comfort. The vehicle’s undeniably stalwart stance is further enhanced by upscale appointments inside and out, outstanding ride/handling characteristics, and exceptional fuel efficiency. We believe that this vehicle is Chevrolet’s SUV heritage and performance taken to a whole new level,” said Chevrolet Philippines president and managing director Albert Arcilla.

Body-on-frame architecture

The Trailblazer’s foundation for both its on- and off-road capabilities is its robust body-on-frame architecture, a 0.8 meter wading capability, electronic shift mode that works on the fly to shift from 4×4 to 4×2, the 3,000-kg towing capacity, and the 8-cross member ladder configuration.

“With the support of an independent five-link rear suspension, a feature found in more up market, premium SUVs, the all-new Trailblazer displays none of the typical characteristics of conventional body-on-frame SUVs. Chevrolet’s objective when developing the SUV was to achieve ride and handling dynamics that match, and in many cases exceed, those of similar-size crossover vehicles,” described Arcilla.

Like its pickup sibling, the Chevrolet Colorado, the all-new Chevrolet Trailblazer was exclusively designed, engineered, executed and validated at General Motors do Brasil (the largest subsidiary of GM in South America) using GM’s global vehicle development processes; it is the second of a series of midsize truck offerings being developed by the Brazilian design and engineering operation.

The all-new Trailblazer sports a pair of projector headlamp/LED tail lamps for energy saving and safety functions that double as another design feature to add to the full-sized SUV stance and are accentuated with power dome hood design and signature dual-port grille that evokes ruggedness yet maintains its attractiveness in any angle.

For added presence, the all-new Trailblazer is equipped with 18-inch rims that command road presence, flush-mounted roofrails for more cargo options, as well as an audio system that comes with steering-mounted controls and full-digital connectivity (USB, AUX and Bluetooth) for personalized sound-tripping whenever the mood strikes are just some of the amenities that encourages you to enjoy life beyond the expected.
