THE SONIC is Chevy’s latest vehicle entry in the country’s biggest segment in the car industry.
This diminutive car grabbed headlines when it “jumped” from a plane as well as did an interesting stunt on a lake as part of a multi-phased advertising campaign titled “Let’s Do This.”
And despite being Chevrolet’s smallest and least expensive car, the Sonic’s arrival in the Philippines became one of the most anticipated because of that successful adventure-laden ad.
The Covenant Car Company Inc. (TCCCI), the country’s exclusive importer and distributor of Chevy brand, is confident that despite the Sonic entering the country’s biggest segment in the car industry, the 1.4-liter subcompact is equipped with class-leading features enough to keep the competition at bay.

Break tradition
According to TCCCI, the Sonic is positioned to break the traditional expectations on what an everyday city car should be as it provides a balanced combination of quality performance, sophisticated yet sporty styling, impressive interior and high-tech comfort, and convenience features.
Priced from P778,888 for the 5-speed manual sedan variant, the Sonic’s top-of-the-line variant (6-speed automatic hatch) carries a price tag of P838,888. The 6-speed automatic sedan variant is priced P828,888 while the 5-speed manual hatch is priced P788,888.
The Sonic’s 1.4-liter Ecotec engine features a double continuously variable cam phaser intake and exhaust technology that provides efficient power and quality driving performance.

Sonic’s improved fuel injectors, combined with high-tech oxygen sensors, optimizes fuel injection ratios that minimize emissions. Built with “return-less” fuel rail and electronically controlled EGR valve, the Sonic ensures that all the fuel that circulates in the engine are smartly utilized and maximized.
Two styles
The Sonic is offered in two body styles: a stylish four-door sedan and a sporty five-door hatchback. Both variants sport some key signature elements including the exposed headlamps, which resemble the look of a high-performance motorbike.
These headlamps are mounted without traditional lens covers, for a three-dimensional appearance on the front corners.
TCCCI informed that Sonic’s sleek lines are the result of improved aerodynamics, which contributes to the sub-compact’s sporty look. Gaps between finished seams at the doors, fenders, hood and headlamps are minimized to reduce wind noise and provide a more solid appearance.
The 16-inch alloy wheels are fitted in the Sonic to accentuate its bold and strong stance.
Refined interior
Inside, the Sonic continues the high-performance motorbike inspiration to its dual-cockpit design instrument cluster and ice-blue backlighting.
Loaded with high-tech and functional features like steering wheel mounted audio controls, rear windshield defogger, multi-media digital connectivity, the Sonic also offers ample storage space and second row 60:40 split fold for flexible cargo loading.
The Sonic carries a five-year warranty, three-year free roadside assistance and the services of a 24/7 Chevy Hotline, according to TCCCI (the hatch variant of the Sonic will be available for delivery on the third week of October 2012).
