Jollibee’s newest Yumbassadors make a difference through music

A group of young musicians from the University of the Philippines in Los Baños has chosen to use music not just to entertain but also to help others.

Filled with passion for music and eagerness to touch lives, they exemplify that age should not be a hindrance in making a positive difference. They are only one of many young Filipinos out there who use their talents and skills for the good of others in their community.

Composed of students, faculty, alumni and staff of UPLB, Kairos Band is a group that uses the proceeds from their music to send underprivileged kids to school, teach them values education and develop their talents.

The band plays their original compositions most of the time. “Our band was officially christened Kairos in 2007. It was founded by Dr. Erick Vernon Dy and I. Kairos means ‘perfect moment’ in Greek and for us it captures how we feel about being able to play music while helping others,” said Engr. Gebriel Remolacio, who is one of the composers, rhythm guitarist and vocalist of Kairos.

Aside from releasing two albums, the band has performed and won in various competitions. In 2011, they were cited as one of the national finalists for the Ten Accomplished Youth Organizations (TAYO) .

“We’re just a group of young people who made a choice to send kids to school through our music. We want to spread the message of helping others and doing something positive with art. Whether it’s music, visuals, film, or dance, anyone can use their talents and skills to do something positive and serve those who also have the potential to dream big, just like the children we are helping,” Gebriel added.

The band is also the perfect example of dynamic talented youth Jollibee wants to recognize through the Choice ko Yum: Choosing the Next Yumbassadors video contest.

The contest is Jollibee’s way of encouraging talented young people to show how they make the most of their time by choosing to take part in worthwhile causes through their talents and skills. To join, contestants must create a video showcasing their talent and how it is being used to create a positive impact in the community. Aside from earning the distinction of being Jollibee’s new Yumbassadors, winners can also get to win as much as P100,000 worth of prizes.
