MANILA, Philippines—Susumu Naruse, secretary general of the International Association of Ports & Harbors (IAPH), will be among local and international speakers at the Subic Bay Maritime Conference & Exhibit on August 23-24, 2012 at the Subic Bay Exhibition and Convention Center.
IAPH has developed into a global alliance of ports, representing today some 200 ports in 85 countries. The member ports together handle well over 60% of the world’s sea-borne trade and nearly 80% of the world container traffic. It is a non-profit-making and non-governmental organization headquartered in Tokyo, Japan.
Themed “Subic Bay: Asia’s Emerging Logistics and Investments Hub,” the conference is being organized by Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) with Subic Bay International Terminal Corp (SBITC), operator of the New Container Terminals 1 and 2. The event is managed by PortCalls Asia, a news and data provider for the transportation industry.
The two-day event will highlight the advantages of investing in the Subic port complex, identify business opportunities in the area, give an update on government infrastructure projects, and pinpoint Subic Bay’s attractions as a transshipment port.
Mr. Naruse’s talk on “Best Practices in International Port Operations” will discuss the most effective, efficient and productive practices applied by international ports to various aspects of their operations.
He joins a list of local and foreign maritime and trade experts, including Transportation Secretary Manuel Roxas II, Economic Planning Secretary Arsenio Balisacan, Customs Commissioner Rozzano Biazon, SBMA chairman and administrator Roberto Garcia, Bases Conversion and Development Authority president Atty Arnel Casanova, SBMA director Norberto Sosa, International Container Terminal Services, Inc. acting head of Asian Region Christian Gonzalez, American Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines senior adviser John Forbes, Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry vice president for Transportation and Logistics Angelito Colona, Air21 president Alberto Lina, and Pac-Atlantic Group chairman Ramon de Leon who will deliver presentations on topics ranging from Philippine economic prospects to Subic port’s viability as an alternative to Manila.
