The Bureau of Customs has warned Filipinos against people posing as customs officials who defraud—through snail mail and e-mail—those who expect to receive packages.
According to Customs Commissioner Ruffy Biazon, perpetrators send bogus notices to intended victims, telling them that parcels for them will not be released until “duties” are paid through money transfer service providers.
Biazon said in a statement that despite a previous warning, his office continues to receive reports from persons who had received such bogus notices.
“The BoC never sends letters of notice about packages from abroad and duties to be paid to individuals,” Biazon said.
