Globe reports progress in network upgrade

Ayala-led Globe Telecom Inc. has completed another key part of its network modernization in various areas of Metro Manila and nearby provinces in line with its $790-million nationwide infrastructure upgrade.

In a statement, the company said it was pushing steadily for the completion of its new infrastructure facilities in northern and eastern Metro Manila, as well as the province of Rizal.

Globe has already modernized its equipment in high-traffic areas such as Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas and Valenzuela (Camanava), Marikina City, as well as Antipolo city and the towns of Angono, Baras, Binangonan, Cardona, Jala-Jala, Morong, Pililla, Rodriguez, San Mateo, Tanay and Teresa, all in Rizal.

“During the course of the modernization, customers will already experience faster mobile data speed of up to 21 Mbps which is comparable to the mobile Internet quality of most developed countries in the world,” Globe Telecom chief technical adviser Robert Tan said.

“These infrastructure change-outs are progressively being rolled out to complete the first phase of our network modernization program,” Tan said.

Globe said once new equipment has been installed in an area, the company would progressively activate 3G, 4G (high-speed packet access-plus, or HSPA+) and advance to deliver superior customer experience.

“Our new state-of-the-art hardware can support simultaneous usage of call, text and mobile Internet even at peak periods, ready to bring a new level of enjoyment to our Globe subscribers,” Tan said.

He said infrastructure change-outs are already being rolled out in key areas in Metro Manila like Quezon City, Ortigas and Mandaluyong, and are expected to go live before the end of 2012.

Globe’s network upgrades first went live in Davao City, which was the company’s pilot market for its modernization.
