Philip Morris suspends exec who beat traffic enforcer

MANILA, Philippines—Philip Morris Fortune Tobacco Corp. has suspended Robert Blair Carabuena, who was videoed slapping a traffic enforcer of Metro Manila Development Authority during an altercation on August 11.

In a statement, the company confirmed that Carabuena was an employee and was being investigated.

“PMFTC has suspended Mr. Carabuena pending the outcome of the investigation,” the statement said. “PMFTC reiterates that it does not condone inappropriate conduct by any of our employees.”

The company also stressed that when Carabuena argued with the MMDA traffic enforcer, he was on his personal time and not on duty for the company.

MMDA has announced that it would file charges against Carabuena.
