Local renewable energy developer MacKay Green Energy (MGE) Inc. is putting up a 22-megawatt power facility that will not only help boost electricity supply in Luzon, but also ease the perennial problem of waste management in Pampanga.
In a statement, MGE said it had partnered with the local government of Lubao, Pampanga, for the proposed facility, which was estimated to cost up to $60 million, or about P2.58 billion, when fully integrated.
This power plant will use the MacKay Energy Waste Processing System to convert municipal solid wastes into electricity.
Under the partnership, the Lubao municipal government will provide the site and the necessary permits for the facility. MGE will construct the facility at no cost to the government.
A groundbreaking ceremony was held last week in Barangay (village) Sta. Catalina in Lubao for the project. MGE expects to complete the facility before June next year.
The MacKay Energy Waste Processing System—which is being used in Germany—will allow the processing of 800 tons of wastes per day. This process allows the classification of wastes into component parts, recyclables and refuse-derived fuel.
Ferrous and nonferrous metals recovered are refined back to almost purity by the process. Any usable metals are also recovered and purified for resale.
