Kato tipped to meet Katy in Singapore’s Night Race
Formula One fans who will watch the world’s only Formula One night race in Singapore can also catch pop idol Katy Perry up close on race day this coming September at the Padang stage area on a specially demarcated “Fan Zone” located near the performance stage. Early bird Singapore Grand Prix (SGP) ticket holders can register using their ticket transaction number listed on the confirmation e-mail or ticket receipt to avail of guaranteed access passes to the Fan Zone and some 2,000 Fan Zone wristbands will be given to lucky registered ticket holders. To access the Fan Zone page, one has to log on to www.singaporegp.sg and the number of wristbands to be given to each registered patron will be equivalent to the number of tickets purchased. The limited offer will end once all 2,000 Sunday wristbands have been redeemed. Fans who failed to win the wristband access pass need not fret, as the Padang concert grounds have a capacity of over 50,000.
MTV sensation Katy Perry’s Sunday performance draws to a close three days of action-packed Formula racing and a series of spectacular sell-out concerts that promises to make the fifth installment of the Singtel Singapore Grand Prix a memorable one. Once the race is finished and the 2012 SGP F1 race champion is crowned at the winner’s podium, Katy Perry will perform live with her chart-topping hits at the Marina Bay Street Circuit. F1 race fans can access the Padang concert grounds as well as all entertainment offerings in Zone 4 with any ticket to the night race with ticket prices starting from about Singaporean $178 for a three-day Zone 4 Walkabout ticket.
Perry is considered a global superstar whose two albums have earned several No. 1 hit singles and multi-platinum sales during the past few years. Her concert is the latest addition to the entertainment line-up for this year’s SGP that includes Asian R&B king and Green Hornet star Jay Chou, famously known as Kato, who is slated to perform on Friday, September 21, and multiple Grammy-award winner band Maroon 5, which performs the following day.
Chou was also known for his role as “Takumi,” star of the hit movie “Initial D” from the famous Japanese animé series about a popular drift race driver. In real life, he has a penchant for fast cars and has a strong following in Asia’s motoring enthusiast market. He will be the first international artist of Chinese descent to perform in the five-year-old Singapore Grand Prix. His latest album “Wow” combines Middle Eastern tones with American rap, Peking Opera and beatboxing. In just 12 years, he amassed a total of 11 best-selling albums throughout his career. His last performance in Singapore at the Singapore Stadium for three nights as a solo show, which was part of his 2010 World Tour, was sold out within hours of going on sale.
