They are Meralco’s Partners for Progress. And the best of the best are recognized as Meralco Luminaries.
The concept was developed in 2011 to pay homage to the numerous corporate, SME, and LGU partners of Meralco, who share the goal for a progressive nation. Out of the various industries that participated in the program, these four partners were awarded as Luminaries: Mr. Freeze (SME Partner), the City of Valenzuela (LGU Partner), ROHM Electronics Philippines Incorporated (Corporate Industrial Partner), and SM Prime Holdings Incorporated (Corporate Commercial Partner).
Mr. Freeze Tube Ice Plant signed up for Meralco’s Time of Use (TOU) Program, an alternative pricing mechanism that allowed Mr. Freeze to adapt its electrical usage habits to take advantage of lower charges during off-peak (low-demand) hours. Savings gained enabled Mr. Freeze to increase quantity of ice tubes per sack without adding to the price, and offer tricycle drivers in the community to augment their own income by distributing ice to nearby businesses.
The City of Valenzuela applied for Meralco’s One-Stop Shop processing to provide strategic counsel to map out a business’ power requirements for both near and long-term expansion plans, quick energization, and the fulfillment of increase in load requirements. Valenzuela also worked with Gawad Kalinga and One Meralco Foundation to establish Disiplina Village, a 52-building project for informal settles who were Typhoon Ondoy victims.
ROHM Electronics Philippines Incorporated consulted Meralco on ways to improve its cost structure. Meralco reviewed the company’s self-generating model and recommended an efficient, Meralco-powered alternative to address the steady rise in fuel prices and generator maintenance ROHM was spending. By relying wholly on Meralco’s facilities, ROHM was able to double its production capacity, take on additional projects, and increase its workforce. ROHM is also a recipient of awards from PEZA, DTI, and DOLE.
SM Prime Holdings Incorporated tapped Meralco to conduct a distribution impact study to give planners of SM City Calamba electrical circuit options to ensure power reliability during peak mall hours. Meralco’s early energization of the site allowed the SM team to carry out test runs to ensure smooth operations in time for opening day in 2011. The presence of SM City Calamba revitalized the town’s economy with job creation, upgraded road infrastructure, and traffic management. SM also opened malls in Quirino, Masinag, and San Pablo the same year to further solidify its status as one of the country’s premier mall brands with the widest reach.
