PetroEnergy Resources Corp. has been granted an environmental compliance certificate (ECC) for its 50-megawatt Nabas wind power project in Aklan.
This will allow the company to pursue its planned renewable energy project.
In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange, PetroEnergy said the ECC was issued on June 1 by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
This paves the way for the start of construction of its wind facility, which will be undertaken by subsidiary PetroGreen Energy Corp. The facility is scheduled for commissioning in 2014.
“The approval of the Nabas ECC and the earlier release by the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) of the project’s certificate of non-coverage of ancestral domain claims prove PetroEnergy’s strict adherence to environmental and social conditions imposed by the government,” said PetroEnergy vice president Francisco G. Delfin Jr.
“With these approvals, PetroGreen can now proceed to securing other local clearances necessary for project development. But like other investors, PetroGreen’s final investment decision hinges on the government’s clear and immediate resolution of the feed-in-tariff issue that has clouded the country’s commitment to renewable energy,” Delfin said.
The Energy Regulatory Commission has yet to issue the final feed-in-tariff rates for renewable energy sources.—Amy R. Remo
