Ford sales soar 59% in six months to June

FORD GROUP Philippines (FGP) reported that sales had surged 59 percent to 4,815 units in the first half of the year, driven mainly by the stellar performance of its Fiesta subcompact sedan.

According to the vehicle assembler, the number of Fiesta units sold in the January-June period reached 1,750, continuing its reign as FGP’s best-selling nameplate.

In June alone, FGP sold 344 units of the Fiesta, the model’s best monthly performance since its launch late last year.

Other units likewise helped boost overall sales in the first half. Demand for the Everest rose 33 percent to 1,412 units, while sales of the Ranger increased by 34 percent to 683 units. The Focus nameplate contributed another 292 units to total sales during the period.

FGP president Randy Krieger expressed confidence that the auto assembler would register even stronger sales in the second half, especially with the scheduled launch of the All-New Ford Explorer in October, and the All-New Ford Ranger shortly after that.

These vehicles are part of parent firm Ford Motor Corp.’s One Ford global strategy, he said.

“Our team has worked very hard on continuing the successful implementation of our One Ford plan, and it’s helped to deliver a first-half performance that far outpaced the overall industry,” Krieger said.

In an earlier interview, Krieger explained that under the One Ford program, products that would be developed for the global market would be the same across the board and not necessarily tailored for specific markets.

For example, instead of developing one small car for the European market and another one for the Asia-Pacific market, only one small car would be rolled out in all Ford markets worldwide, he said.

This would allow the company to better take advantage of economies of scale, he said, as well as make the Ford brand stronger globally.
