Power outages may hit Visayas consumers

MANILA, Philippines — Consumers face brownout risks across the Visayas as the grid remains under red alert for a third straight day amid tight power supply.
The country’s grid operator placed the Visayas under red alert from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., still due to a power crunch caused by outages at several power plants in the Visayas and Mindanao.

A yellow alert will also be in effect from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
With large power facilities unavailable, the grid’s available capacity was 2,608 megawatts (MW) as of 8 a.m. The peak demand was 2,581 MW.

A yellow alert indicates that available power reserves are thinning, meaning any unexpected plant outage could trigger service interruptions. A red alert indicates that the supply cannot meet the demand, raising the risk of rotational brownouts unless we manage consumption effectively. /pai
